Youth support food bank

The “Tweens” Class of the Episcopal Church School is doing a mission project on Hunger in the local community. Carla Mulkey from the Eastern Idaho Community Action Partnership attended their class in November to educate the youth on hunger issues in the Salmon Community. The “Tweens” Class is for 5th through 8th grade youth and meets weekly after school on Tuesdays. Members of the group are  Kelsey Stansberry, Brooke Painter, Hailey Cole, Katie Westfall, Avery Stansberry and Cody Muscarella. Leaders are Lois Blackadar and Luke Prange. The group learned that every month 225 families in our community get food from the local Food Bank to feed their families. People that need food have to fill out an application and qualify according to their family size and income.  The Food Bank is open for people in need on Wednesdays from 9 AM to 3 PM.

December 18, 2011 the youth visited the congregations of the Episcopal Church and the Presbyterian Church to give a presentation on Hunger and to invite the churches to help them in their project. The church school will be collecting food for the local Food Bank until the end of January.

A Sunday Supper is being planned by Jim Juza and the Episcopal Church Women to support the youth in their mission project. The dinner will be held Sunday, January 29th at 5 PM at the Episcopal Parish Hall next to the Courthouse. Reservations for dinner can be made by calling Mary Scott at 756-4501. Cost is by donation. All proceeds from the dinner will be donated to the local Food Bank. During th,e Sunday Supper the youth will be making a short presentation on Hunger in the local community.
