Spinning and Weaving
The ancient arts of spinning, weaving, and felt making are still being practiced in Salmon, Idaho. A group known as the Fiber Guild meets one Saturday a month to work on individual projects. You may have seen them last summer at the Farmer’s Market or Heritage days at the Sacajawea Center.
They come from all over the Salmon Valley. Some from as far away as Challis, May, Northfork and Leadore. Many bring spinning wheels. Others knitting or crochet. They work with all sorts of fibers: wool and silk, cotton, linen, bamboo, alpaca and even yak. They teach others about their special skills and help them get started down their own paths of creative endeavor.
