Shrove Tuesdy Pancake Supper set for February 21

The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer is inviting the public to its pancake supper on Shrove Tuesday, February 21, 5:30 to 7:30 PM, at the Parish Hall. Pictured in this photo from last year's supper are (front) Maria Stansberry, Jazzy Grant (back) Kirsten Fogel, Brooke Painter, and Kelsey Stansberry.
The Parish Hall, located next to the Lemhi County courthouse was built in the early 1950s and since that time for nearly 60 years the pancake supper has been held there each year the day before the beginning of Lent.
Church members have been preparing sourdough batter along with homemade chokecherry syrup. The children will dress up in Mardi gras fashion and help to serve.
For centuries the English have celebrated Shrove Tuesday, the day before Lent, with merriment and antics and especially, great quantities of pancakes. In fact, the fried flat cakes became so important to the holiday that it has also been called Pancake Day, or Pancake Tuesday. Shrove Tuesday always falls 47 days before Easter Sunday, so the date varies from year to year.
Children under 6 will be served free at the supper which the organizers say is a great time for families.
