Regular Session Minutes
February 13, 2012
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Gail Baer at 5:33 p.m. Present were Chairman Gail Baer, Dorrie Prange, Shannon Johnson, and Preston Rufe. Josh Tolman was excused. Quorum was present. Also present were District Clerk Krissy LaMont and Superintendent Joey Foote.
Motion, Prange, Second, Johnson, to enter Executive Session pursuant to Section 67-2345 (a) Idaho Code for the purpose of discussing personnel. By roll call vote, all “ayes”, the board adjourned to Executive Session at 5:33 p.m.
Regular Session resumed at 6:01 p.m.
Chairman Bear led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Brady Bever gave a presentation on the Idaho Education Network Lab at the High School. He is one of the Certified Idaho Education Network teachers. He is teaching a Military History class to students in Challis, Arco, Mackey, Leadore, and Dubois. Mr. Bever interfaces his computer with the IEN lab. He has numerous resources on the internet for the students to use. The students can plan marches using google maps. Mr. Bever gives the students note quizzes to ensure they are reading the information. He is able to can keep an eye on all of his students no matter where they are located with this system. The network camera is always on. The students have not completely caught on to the video feed, and Mr. Bever can see everything when his back is turned. The class is an amazing elective for the students.
Time was allowed for public input. There were no comments.
Motion, Prange, Second, Johnson, to approve the Consent Agenda, including the Board Meeting minutes from January 9th and 23rd, 2012, Bills and Warrants in the amount of $312,075.89, and Personnel Recommendations (see Attached). All “ayes”, motion carried.
Jane Feldhausen, fifth grade teacher, requested a field trip to Bannock. The transportation is paid for by their fundraising. This field trip will take place May 24th. 2012. The is excellence opportunity to coincide with social studies.
Motion, Prange, Second, Johnson, to approve the 5th grade field trip to Bannock. All “ayes”, motion carried.
Joni James reported on the progress the Citizens Committee has been making. They have been scheduling presentations, publicizing with buttons and flyers, and collecting a list of yes voters. They will be having their second school tour on Wednesday the 15th and a free pancake breakfast on the 24th.
Under Administrators Reports, Shawn Hendrickson reported on the sports schedule and a scheduled fire drill on Wednesday at the High School for Dan Hull. Mr. Hendrickson discussed the last student of the month assembly at the Middle School and 4.o awards. This week the 5th graders are having their 50’s music program. The Middle School will be giving their second tour on the 15th. Gear Up 2 will be having an assembly on the 21st at the Middle School.
Superintendent Foote discussed the last building representative meeting. These meeting have been very productive. Mr. Foote thanked and gave kudos to the Citizens Committee for all their time and efforts. He appreciates all their efforts. Mr. Foote than discussed Wisewood, Inc. a consulting and renewable energy project development firm specializing in biomass heating systems. They want to write and apply for a grant for the engineering work associated with installing a wood-fired boiler system for the new school facility. Trustee Dorrie Prange was at a presentation the company gave to member in the community. Superintendent Foote discussed adding Wisewood proposal as a discussion topic during the next work session if the trustees wanted to discuss it.
Due to no further business to discuss as a matter of Regular Session, Motion, Prange, to adjourn, Second, Johnson, all ayes, meeting adjourned at 7:03 p.m.
