New Years Eve accident

At approximately 1254 hours on December 31st, 2011, Sheriff’s Dispatch received a 911 call from the Doering residence on Briney Creek advising that they had just watched a vehicle run off the road and go into the Salmon River, at milepost 289, on US Hwy 93, South. Salmon Search and Rescue, and the Salmon Ambulance responded along with the Sheriff’s Office. Prior to arrival the Doering’s advised that the driver and his grandson were at their residence and were un-injured. The driver, 61 yr old Charles Maucher, of Stevensville, Montana, informed the Sheriff that he was traveling approximately 50 mph when he lost control of his 1997 Chevrolet, S-10, on a very slick and icy road . The vehicle over corrected, went backwards down the embankment and rolled before entering the river, ending right side up. The vehicle was totaled and removed from the river with the assistance of Salmon Search & Rescue, and Bill Rick’s Towing. The driver and his 18 yr old grandson, Michael Maucher, also of Stevensivlle, were uninjured most likely due to their both wearing their seatbelts. Cause of the accident was speed too fast for conditions and alcohol was not a factor.
