Lemhi Education Project students awarded scholarships
Several students were awarded scholarships recently as the partnership between North Idaho College and the Lemhi Education Project enters its second semester. The partnership is designed to support higher education classes in Salmon and provides for on-site videoconferencing and online classes.
The Salmon Valley Chamber of Commerce offered two $150 scholarships to chamber members and their employees. These funds were made available as part of the proceeds of the Salmon Marathon, which was held in September. Spring semester recipients are Eastern Idaho Credit Union employees Rebekah Rice and Jeanette Phillips, who are both enrolled in an Introduction to Computers course online.
Salmon Alternative School students Tiffany Eison and Alicia Hutchison were each awarded $130 tuition scholarships by the Kirtley Scholarship Fund. Eison and Hutchison are enrolled in a dual credit College Study Skills course held at the Salmon Valley Business and Innovation Center via videoconferencing. They were also awarded scholarships of $114 each for textbooks. Eison and Hutchison both plan to attend North Idaho College through the Lemhi Education Project in fall 2012 with some college credits already behind them because of the dual credit program. Dual credit courses are available to high school juniors and seniors to earn college credit at reduced college tuition costs, while also fulfilling high school graduation requirements.
