House panel seeks more tree cutting on public land

A House panel approved legislation Thursday that would lead to greater harvesting of trees on federal lands as part of a Republican-led plan to replace a recently expired program that has sent billions of dollars to rural counties over the past decade to help them operate their schools and provide other essential services.

ROAD RECLAMATION IN NORTH FORK DISTRICT

Lemhi County Commissioner John Jakovac reported that during a recent meeting with the Forest Service he was told that around 50 miles of roads in the North Fork Ranger District are on the agency’s Travel Plan list for reclamation.

Lemhi County’s Assessor’s Office and Treasurer’s Office are going to be added to the Court House heating system by way of two new heat pumps.

New K-9's for County and Salmon City

On Thursday, January 26, the Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office, along with Salmon PD, drove to the Twin Falls, Idaho area, where two dogs were purchased for K-9 use. Both dogs are Belgian Shepherd Dogs, commonly known as Malinois (pronounced maelinwa) are brothers.

Volunteer of the Year nominations sought

The Board (BOCC) would like to recognize individuals for the time they spend making Lemhi County a better place to live. The Board thanks all of those groups and individuals who give so freely and selflessly of their time.

District Seven land issue resolved

The Salmon City Council has voted to deed to Lemhi County the Monroe Street property on which the District Seven Health Department clinic was built and leave the deed’s original reversion clause intact. The action taken by the council during its January 18 meeting completes the land transaction which began by ordinance in 2001. It will be up to the county to complete the land transaction agreement with District Seven Health. Article by Leslie Shumate.
